  Inner Geek

Saturday, May 28, 2005

Clicking back to some comments i landed on two friends commenting about how Geek they are in percentage. hmm.. interesting thought. Let me try. But I must admit I'm not a Star Wars fan. Nor do i tuck my shirt in my underpants. I took the long test. (Whoever dares must be warned.. chances are you are being watched! haa...) well, ok...

Dare to take the Geek Test

This is so far the most extensive Geek test ive tried. And it seems to be precise, although I do not admit it! haha... I scored 39.64497% on the third try. Ok, the first i exagerrated a bit, the second i tried to be more honest. And it scored a whopping 44.+ % still. So the last try, i was totally honest so as to lessen the percentage (see, told you i do not admit it). But still landed me on a "Major Geek" rank. And to think the two friends were only at a 25ish something percent. And they are Star Wars die hards! Fine! Nevermind. Better pass this on to others to see if it is precise. Those who took the test, it wont hurt to please leave a comment on how you did, right? 8)

Last note, i do not think naming your pet after a mythological being has something to do with being a Geek. Although, i named 2 of my hamsters "digital" and "micro" because they were so fast and small. And i still think Buffy is not a convincing vampire slayer. And i still wanted an added RAM and another 80G HD and my processor is reaching an over-heating 60 deg Celsius temp. And i still do not know what "the blue screen" meant. And i cant count up to 31 with one hand.
(oh those two i remember now.. took someone *.* to remind me! ha.. and i even havent checked those two items indeed)

And hmm... they said the ratio of male to female is 10:1 but the ratio of female to male in population is 1.8:1 so that makes female geeks about this % chance of ruling the world!? ... oh, tssk... i actually clicked on the calQ d[o.o]b

pause. *sigh*

note: by the way, please don't forget to tease my virtual hamster at the bottom of this page. thanks!

  Soundtrack on Advertisments?

Friday, May 27, 2005

Oh.. such acts are used to be called "sell outs"...

Do people still use that term nowadays anyway? I guess it all depends now on the content and which product a Cool band promotes. Back in circa 96-98, local bands that stupidly appear on TV promoting potato chips, slippers, bags and even catsup (!) get coined as "sell-outs" ...but those were the days.. lol... no need to graphically describe.

Ehem i have to admit, even the following adverts i confess... i tried to download.. So there goes dissing off sell-outs! Lol...

First off.. to my amazement... CRANES promoting American Express... and Kate Winslet (yes, the actress from that ship-sinking Titanic) is there... Their song "Astronauts" from the album "Particles and Waves" is in the advertisement and it's to be seen on TV and in cinemas. Well, but because of the first line "At 17, I went to prison for murder..." i thought, ok i better see this whole thing.

Watch the Ad here

Next one i bumped into a site just recently, was Slowdive on a Drinking Water Advertisment. I don't know when it was actually used but more details below. Their song "Crazy for You" from their "Pygmalion" album was briefly used here. Ehem, the page also includes downloads of some of Slowdives's videos. Click the picture:

click for slowdive vids

But in fairness, okay.. Cranes and Slowdive were only heard in the background. So there.. you go right ahead and download them too! its free anyway.. hehe... and if you're living in the West, you have probably seen these on TV anyway.

note: im not promoting the products... pff! im promoting the bands! lol
Oh and remember on Fri, 27th May (oh, that is today)
Amsterdam, Paradiso, Cranes will be playing at 20.00
& Sat 28th May - Brussels, Molenbeek VK Club.
send in those pictures! hehe

Oh, and would you look at that, Mercury Rev on June 8, Billy Corgan on the 9th, Anthony and the Johnsons on 12th and Sigur Ros on July 13th.. all on Paradiso. hmm...

But i should also mention, even if i maintain a couple of blogs, another reason for me to join myspaces is this!!! woah!!! imagine being "added as a friend".. ok fine! im a Cranes die hard.. move over!

Nope, this is not me, it's Cranes' Ali Shaw

  Strange CD

Wednesday, May 25, 2005

This is sitting in my draft for 3 days... Friday night someone knocked at my door. A friend handing me a cd, and according to her it was from J. I was about to hand it back when i read the cover:

"Robin Guthrie (ex-Cocteeau Twins) has teamed up with Siobhan De Mare (ex-Mono) on a new project called Violet Indiana... 'Russian Doll' sees the duo re-directing the ethereal spirit of the Cocteau Twins into a modern setting..."

Ok, intruiging enough. The cd deserves to be played. I know for one if i return it, he will not listen to it anyway. And hey, why all of a sudden he knows what i would like to listen to?

russian doll

And this comes to prove he did not indeed listen to it before purchasing...

Track One :: Never Enough

Never enough, enough of your stuff
I'm sick of being of being told
I'm not good enough
Telling me what i should say or do
I'm never enough
Not good enough
Not good enough for you

'Cos you and me
Should never be
There is nothing left inside of me
'Cos you and me
Should never be
I'm over you
You sigh about me

It's always the same
Kept playing games
I'm sick of you
Everything you do
Have you ever thought
That maybe i don't care?
Enough of you
I'm sick of you
Everything you say
Everything you do
I wish that you just weren't there

'Cos you and me
Should never be
There is nothing left inside of me
'Cos you and me
Should never be
I'm over you
You sigh about me

Not good enough, not good enough
Good enough, good enough, i'm not good enough
I'm not good enough for you
There is nothing left for us to say or do
It's all and done now
Just walk away
Just nothing left for me to do
And there is nothing left to say
I'm over you
Never enough
I'm never enough for you
There is nothing left to say
And there is nothing left to do

Track Two :: Quelque jour

He crept into the room
Didn't say a word
She laid beside him
The screaming was all i heard
He kissed her feet
His hands were tied
He left the room
And i watched her cried

She picked her dress up
And made a call
I felt so strange as i watched it all
Her name was Velvet
Her lips were so red
Her hair was black as she laid on the bed

Do-do-do-do quelque jour
Do-do-do quelque jour

She made her face up
And tightened her belt
There was no feelings
The ones that she felt
She left the room and she got in a car
She stopped off at a strange bar

Do-do-do-do quelque jour
Do-do-do quelque jour

He kissed her hands
Her hands were so hot
He looked up and smiled at the sky
He said her name and remembered when
She smacked his face and she did it again
He said her name and remembered when
She smacked his face and she did it again

Track Three :: (My Baby Was A) Cheat

( need i write down the lyrics? title speaks for itself. )

Track Four :: New Girl

He tries to feed me whispers
Sweetly in my ear
He says the words, the ones that i need to hear

I'm his blue bell
I'm his new girl

His heart is smiling and it's right next to mine
I drift into his world and i lose my mind

I'm his blue bell
I'm his new girl

We walk together into fields coloured blue
Kissed by the sun i want to lie beside you

New girl (blue bell...)

I'm his blue bell
I'm his new girl

All Music Guide

Musicwise, I prefer the voice of Liz Frazer... and the darker melodies and more complicated words of Cocteau Twins and This Mortal Coil. But this album is also nice for collectors.

violet indiana

note: lol. imagine giving a cd mocking himself! some men are just plain stupid. hmm or he probably thinks i am in this case? pff! Giving off another Smack on his cheek again! *SLAP!

And this formerly pushed-around girl is defenitely a New Girl!

by: Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream--and not make dreams your master;
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run--
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

note: subscribing to daily poems sometimes surprises you
on how that day's pick makes you think.

wat lief!

You scored a total of 36

"You're Connected! You're feeling connected, and that's cool! Most people in longer, serious relationships will score in this category if they share good communication. It means that you and your partner are on the same page in your relationship, and that you're both feeling pretty good about it.

Neither one of you is co-dependent upon the other, and appreciate a healthy distance and independence while basking in the joy of feeling connected with each other.

Be happy with your feelings of connectedness! Many relationships do not have this level of connectedness, even if they've been together for awhile. Enjoy the connection you share with your partner!!"
